Anne Hathaway plays Catwoman in the new flick, and appears to provide the one-liners in the movie, as villainous Bane wreaks havoc and despair. Bane is the only nemesis that has toppled Batman in the story's past - even breaking his back in one of the comics. 'I am Gotham's reckoning,' the villain announces.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Michael Caine and Gary Oldman also make appearances in the trailer. Joseph, who plays John Blake, discusses the possibility that Bane has killed Batman at one point. The longstanding rumour has been that Bruce Wayne will perish in this final installment of Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins franchise.  Micahel Caine can be seen saying: 'I won't bury you. I've buried enough members of the Wayne family.'

Catwoman, or Selina Kyle, appears to try to convince Batman to give up the fight for Gotham. 'You don’t owe these people any more,' she pleads. 'You’ve given them everything.'The Dark Knight Rises has cost a staggering $250million to make, but will not be shown in 3D, only IMAX cinemas. The film opens in cinemas in the UK and US on July 20.
