Originally named Diana Mariam Kurian, ace southern actress Nayanthara has converted from Christianity to Hinduism. The conversion took place at the Arya Samaj temple in Chennai and the actress, who took the step with great “passion and conviction”, has retained her screen name.
While she says that her decision to convert to Hinduism is personal, many are bound to see it as a step towards her impending marriage to actor, choreographer and director Prabhu Deva, who had divorced his wife earlier this year. Incidentally, members of Prabhu Deva's family are devotees of the Suttur Mutt in Mysore.
