Beyonce’s baby bump is totally obvious now, but back in mid-August — before she had announced her pregnancy at the Aug. 28 MTV Video Music Awards — Beyonce and hubby Jay-Z were keeping her growing bump under wraps. “The whole time I definitely was thinking, ‘Everyone knows, everyone can see,” she revealed before a screening of her new concert DVD Nov. 20.

Beyonce Reveals Why It Was Hard To Hide Her Pregnancy

And when Beyonce performed sold-out shows for four nights at New York’s Roseland Ballroom in August, she thought the jig was up. “When you’re pregnant, it’s a little bit harder to breathe, so it was hard doing all the choreography and singing at the same time,” she explained. But luckily the shows were taped for a DVD, which she hopes will be a momento for her child. The movie also features home footage, childhood videos and a glimpse at her top-secret wedding dress!

Posted in : Celebrities

While Kim Kardashian has had her share of magazine covers and Snooki herself appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone, it has been confirmed neither of the reality stars will be gracing Elle's cover anytime soon.

Kim Kardashian and Snooki Won't Be 'Elle' Cover Girls Anytime Soon

The fashion mag's creative director Joe Zee clarified his views on the issue: Listen, Kim is a big cover star out there and if Kim had something going on in her life right now...I just wish that she would do something, but she's not doing anything. If she actually did something, we would actually think about Kim for the cover. It's about new. It's not about, so much, a reality star. The idea is, are they newsworthy? Is it someone our readers want to read about?

As for Snooki, Zee simply said, "I'm going to have to pass on that one." The creative director went on to site their November cover girl, Jennifer Aniston, as a "ravishing" celeb with "incredible style." We couldn't agree more.

Jay Sean turns lyricist for Priyanka Chopra

“We’re just friends… I wrote some songs for her album so hopefully she’ll take them,” Jay Sean was quoted as saying by a foreign newspaper.

The singer also appeared a little disturbed as there were a few rumours suggesting that he and Priyanka are romantically involved. The singer said that he has enough women around him to be romantically linked to her. “I think I understand women pretty well by now. I’ve been around enough of them,” he was quoted as saying.

Jay Sean revealed that he would love to be in a long-term relationship. “I’ve had a lot of long-term relationships. I’m fun to be with, I’d hope. I don’t take things too seriously even though my life is bonkers. They experience all the fun things but at the end of the day I still enjoy going home and watching a film. It doesn’t always need to be popping bottles in nightclubs, we can do that, and its fun but I enjoy the slightly normal things too and that’s important,” he added.

Meanwhile Priyanka is busy recording her albumaccording to sources. She has just returned to town after being away for a very long time in the US.

“Her album is coming up fine. She is practicing and recording her songs bit by bit. A part of the song is being recorded. Then you go back and record the next portion again. Then the vocals are mixed in the software. So it takes a lot of time and Priyanka is ensuring that everything sounds exactly the way she wants,” a source added. Naseer is the boldest in 'The Dirty Picture', says Emraan

Posted in : Celebrities, Movies

(added few months ago!)

Bollywood's 'serial kisser' Emraan Hashmi feels that veteran actor and co-star Naseeruddin Shah has got bolder and dirtier in their upcoming film 'The Dirty Picture', inspired by late Southern sex siren Silk Smitha's life.

Naseer is the boldest in 'The Dirty Picture', says Emraan

"As far as the bold quotient goes...I am doing my own bold stuff but Naseer is the boldest in the film. I think he has taken all my mantle in the film and he is doing what I use to normally do in films," Emraan, who earned the 'serial kisser' tag after Anurag Basu's 'Murder', told PTI. On scenes with the senior actor, Hashmi said, "We had two-three short scenes..there is a premiere and party shots but not many.

They cross paths as they are in the same industry. Naseer is an actor, Tusshar is a struggling writer, Vidya is an actress. As you are being part of same industry so you end up meeting people." The Milan Luthria-directed movie sees Emraan essaying the role of a director. The actor claims that the film would have been incomplete without casting him. "Everyone...everything is dirty in this film. It is the dirtiest film I have done. You cannot make a dirty picture without Emraan Hashmi," he said.

'The Dirty Picture' is inspired by sex icon Vijaylakshmi better known as Silk Smitha. The film shows the highs and lows of an actress-dancing star. "The tone of the film is bold and provocative. But it does not cross the line into vulgarity.. Vulgarity is always subjective. The film is bold in terms of language also and few people might feel it as dirty and take it as an offence. The concept is bold but at the same time entertaining," Emraan said. Due for release on December 2, the film stars Naseeruddin Tusshar Kapoor and Vidya Balan.

My journey in Bollywood has just begun: Ranbir Kapoor

Posted in : Celebrities

(added few months ago!)

It has been four years since Ranbir Kapoor made his Bollywood debut with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 2009 film 'Saawariya' but the actor says his journey in the industry has just begun. The 29-year-old actor, who is eight films old, will next be seen playing a rockstar in Imtiaz Ali's film of the same name.

My journey in Bollywood has just begun Ranbir Kapoor

I have completed four years in the industry. My film 'Saawariya' released on 9 November, 2009. But I feel that my journey has just begun. I have worked with very good directors. And I am looking forward to working with many more," Ranbir said.

The actor, whose upcoming film 'Rockstar' is ready for release, says that the past four years have been a great learning period for him. "I have learnt an important lesson in the past four years and that is to stay focused and concentrate on my work. Factors like fame, money are temporary in life. What stays till the end is the respect that we earn," he said.

Ranbir also praised his 'Rockstar' director, who has previously given hits like Kareena-Shahid starrer 'Jab We Met' and 'Love Aaj Kal', starring Saif Ali Khan and Ranbir's ex girlfriend Deepika Padukone.

"My favourite Imtiaz film is 'Love Aaj Kal'. He is a brilliant director. My experience working with him was amazing," he added. In 'Rockstar', the actor plays a middle-class Jat boy Janardan Jhakhar, who has the dream of becoming a rockstar like Jim Morrison. He later becomes successful but fame comes with heartbreak.

"We all go through a lot of ups and downs in the journey of life. In the film, though it is a little exaggerated but still it is the same. I had to match up to the character created by Imtiaz," Ranbir said. The film will also mark superstar Shammi Kapoor's last appearance in a feature film, who died on August 14.

"Shammi Kapoor was the one and only rockstar of Bollywood. My grandfather (Raj Kapoor) died when I was very young. So I considered him (Shammi) as my grandfather. We were very lucky to have him in the film. When he first came on the sets of the film he was very nervous. He behaved like a newcomer. He had a cameo in the film and he would ask Imtiaz to increase his role. He flirted with all the girls," Ranbir said. The actor belongs to the famous Kapoor clan but says that he is not bogged down by the tag.

"I have grown up in a film family. Our family is in the industry for the past 80 years. So, I know about the success and failure and the uncertainty in this profession. I don't feel pressurised. I feel responsible and never get bogged down. I have my own expectations to fulfil," he added. Ranbir also said that making a film is a teamwork and he never takes full credit for success or failure of his films.

"I don't have a plan in life. Whatever appreciation I get I don't deserve it all alone. I can't take the full credit of the success of the film and like wise for failure," he said. 'Rockstar', which also stars Pakistani-Czech origin model Nargis Fakhri, will hit the theatres on November 11.

Amnesiac's memory works best on familiar faces: study

Posted in : Celebrities

(added few months ago!)

Amnesiac's memory works best on familiar faces studyA young woman who has had amnesia since birth has shown scientists at Baycrest's Rotman Research Institute that she is impaired when it comes to retaining unfamiliar faces, but when she is shown a photo of someone familiar, such as a Hollywood celebrity, she can more easily recall it a few seconds later.

The 22-year-old woman, known as "HC," has amnesia as a result of developing only half the normal volume of the hippocampus in her brain because of oxygen deprivation during her first week of life. The hippocampus is a part of the brain that plays an important role in consolidating information from short- and long-term memory.

HC functions relatively normally despite her impairment and is a "good sport" about taking part in research, said lead investigator Nathan Rose, a post-doctoral fellow in cognitive neuroscience at the institute.

"She has participated in research for a while now, and she really enjoys it. She's eager to come in and help us out, and she sort of views doing these tasks as little games."In one experiment, she and a control group of 20 undergraduate students were shown 40 famous faces and 40 non-famous faces and asked to recognize them after a short delay.

"We showed a picture of a famous face very briefly, just for a second, and then there was a brief delay, either one or eight seconds, and then we showed two faces, and just said, 'Which one did you just see?"' Rose explained in an interview. "And the two faces, one was the exact match, and one was a morphed version of that face — a different face."

HC scored 70 per cent in accuracy compared to the control group's 81 per cent on non-famous faces. But her recognition of famous faces was 85 per cent — the exact same as for the control group.

HC is a film buff and celebrity watcher. When researchers showed her a photo of Paris Hilton and asked her a few seconds later whether she recognized the face, she had no problem remembering the Hollywood party girl.

In another short-term memory task, participants were presented with a single word -- a high-frequency common word, a low-frequency word, or a non-word. Then the person had to do a counting exercise for several seconds, and recall the word.

"In the case of high-frequency words, HC was able to do it pretty well, but for the non-words, she was just hopeless," Rose said.

The single case study, which was done in collaboration with the University of Toronto, is considered important for understanding the nuanced workings of short-term memory in people with a memory disorder such as amnesia.

People with amnesia have deficits in long-term memory, yet often seem to function fine by relying on their short-term memory, which has traditionally been thought to be intact. However, a growing body of research, including this latest study, shows that "working memory" is also impaired in this population.

"Our findings add to the growing evidence that short-term memory is not intact in amnesia," Dr. Fergus Craik, a Baycrest scientist who collaborated on the study, said in a release. "However, to my knowledge, we are the first to directly test the hypothesis that short-term memory functions better if the information has some past familiarity to the person."

That may explain why individuals with amnesia are often able to compensate for their profound memory deficit in social settings by seeking out familiar cues to support short-term memory. Rose said it helps illustrate how important it is to have things in a familiar context when an older adult has a serious memory problem.

The person can navigate around their home city or apartment relatively well, he noted, "but then you move them to a nursing home or something, they have a really hard time figuring out how to get around."The study was posted online in the science journal Neuropsychologia, ahead of the print publication.
