The stars: Johnny Depp, Marion Cotillard, Christian Bale, Stephen Graham, Billy Crudup.
The story: The Depression years of the early 1930s were ZS so successful the fledgling FBI appoints its top agent Melvin Purvis (Bale) to run the Chicago office and track him down.
Gangsters and lawmen engage in a series of machine-gun battles, with Purvis getting ever closer to Dillinger, eventually capturing his girlfriend Billie Frechette (Cotillard). Dillinger is America's first Public Enemy Number One, and as the years draw on the police net grows tighter.
The verdict: Johnny Depp brilliantly shows what a talented allround performer he is in Michael Mann's all-guns blazing tale of gangsters vs G-Men.
